Hey,

I'm in the process of getting my new PC together and I have 2 questions:

1st question:

Which of the motherboards listed above (ASUS z97-C and Asrock Fatal1ty z97 Killer) is "better"?
What's the real difference?

2nd question:

I really want the Noctua NH-D14 because it has great cooling (I have a hot room that's why I need it) and the price is exactly in my range.

Now I wonder if it will fit WITHOUT interfering with the first PCI slot on the motherboards listed in the title?

I really wouldn't like to put the Noctua sideways.

Thank you for the help!

I know D15 won't work with first PCIE slot on mobos.
I own D14 and Z87A from Asus, and from the look of it, 1st PCIE slot for X16 probably wont' fit either. Thank god on the Z87A the first slot is X1, which I don't use anyway.
The key to use D14 and the like is to get a tough mobo. One time on Tom's Hardware SMB build a Gigabyte board was broken by the D14 because of the pressure. (weight).
I recommend something like the Sabertooth line from Asus, something that will support the weight.

Well the sabertooth line is way out of my price range.. And I just found this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLW8gJ1f6Q8
In which you can see a Asus z87A and a Noctua U12S (same size of cooler blocks as the NH-D14 etc) and it fits.. also the z97-C is only 0.2inch smaller compared to the z87A..

Still not convinced though :S

I should add that my case is HAF XB, so my z87 a is horizontal in relation to the mobo, whereas in regular ATX case I think of the air coolers vertical in relationship to the mobos. So that's why weight is more of a non issue for me. That's why I didn't need a Sabertooth.

As for your first question, the Asrock Z97 fatality is better. I has 8 VRM power regular, and Z97 C only has 6.
Audio Fatality is better 1150 codec vs 890 codec

Just two of the pros for fatality probably many more.

If you have to choose between those two, fatality gets my vote.

Ok, thank you very much for you answer..

I don't worry about the weight because of the mounting system of Noctua, which is srsly great..

Thank you for your input.
