I have a lot of trouble trying to connect my Vizio smart tv to my network - I get no such trouble from any other devices, either my own or those of my guests. It takes me five to ten time-consuming attempts or more before a connection is made. The distance to my router is not an issue - my house isn't that big, and other devices in the same room connect quickly and easily. The password is not the problem, because eventually, after multiple attempts, I do get a connection.

Why does my Vizio tv have such difficulty?

"Unable to connect"

I sure am tired of seeing that come up over and over...

what model is your TV?

What kind of wireless network do you have?
What sorts of devices are able to connect "quickly and easily"?

Thank you for you help, Entomber. Sorry I left off some important details.

My tv is a Vizio E502AR. My wireless network consists of a Comcast gateway using an Apple AirPort Extreme as the router. The devices that connect easily from the same room include an iPad, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, iPhones, an iMac, and a Mac Pro tower.

Thanks again for any advice you can give me.

The commonality I see between all your devices that easily connect are that they are all Apple devices, not to mention that your wireless router is also an Apple device . Your Vizio smart TV is not an Apple device and may have questionable compatibility with your Apple Airport Extreme (although it shouldn't, according to the tech specs of the router)

Could you try plugging in your Smart TV using ethernet directly into your Airport Extreme?

I agree that a signal from an Apple router, as compared to a signal from any other router, should be compatible with any Internet-compatible device. And in this case, compatibility might not be correctly called the issue, in that the connection is eventually made. It took almost thirty minutes this afternoon, but now the tv is connected. Why it takes so many attempts to make the connection is what I'm trying to get at...

Additionally, I mistakenly omitted a device that quickly connects to my network: my wife's Kindle Fire HDX, which as you know is not an Apple device.

It's an odd problem, isn't it...

Thank you again for trying to help.

p.s. I cannot get a cable from the router into the tv - it's impractical.

Anyone else? I'd appreciate the help...

it's also possible that your smart TV's network interface card is not picking up a sufficiently strong signal from your Airport Extreme. Since you said it is impractical to get a cable to the TV, I'm assuming that your Airport Extreme is relatively far away from it.

If there's a lot of other houses or apartments in the same area with wifi, it could just be that the signal from your home router is being drowned out. Could you try connecting your smart TV to your home network with it very close to your airport, just for now, so we can find out what the problem is?
