I play games like CS:GO (competitive), TF2, Gary's Mod etc. I have never had huge problems with lag before this. I have a decent wifi (not sure what specs but I will update it when I find out( I am a teenager and don't know what package we have ordered)). I will be playing in game with perfectly fine ping and then randomly it will shoot up ( now it just starts high with occasional low ping). I order my internet through shaw with a Cisco Linkseys E2000.

Any ideas as to what is causing this is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

You need to test on a wired connection so you know if you need to troubleshoot wireless issues or pc/router/internet issues.

Highly likely it is random wireless interference either from someone in your house or from some house nearby. You can't actually fix this you just have to try to find a way to avoid it.

This is the art of wifi, wifi is pretty unstable when it comes to latency if you want a stronger, stabler connection go for wired

One day when I was having the issues I tried plugging in the Ethernet cable and found that I was having the same issues. Also today I was playing when everyone was out and I found that it was perfectly fine. I think we will have to upgrade our internet plan. Thanks for your answers!
