After replacing a failing power supply unity in my computer I have been getting poor frame rates in all of my games.

I have a Dell XPS 435T with a gtx550ti and have moved from a 450w power supply to a 500w corsair cx500.

I am getting poor frame rates in games that would normally run at 60(now I would get jumps from 60 to 30)
And in games such as planetside 2 where it would range from 50 to 30 on all low settings it runs at 20-10 fps.

I don't know if my drivers are outdated or if a component was damaged while replacing the power supply unit, but it seems like I've traded one problem for another.

Get something like HWmonitor and take note of all the voltages and temps during gameplay. Then put the dell psu back in and see what happens and compare. 450w is enough for your system anyway, and dell normally make pretty robust psu's.

Thank you iam2therowe for replying to my post.

I have not yet replaced the power supply yet but I am wondering if a defective power supply would cause me to have 20-10 fps where I once had 50-40?

Also, I noticed that even though people had said that this model had an extremely quiet fan, the fan on this power supply is almost 2x louder than my last power supply.

I'm not sure as well, but could it perhaps be my CPU that's the problem? I experience longer load times that before and when my frames begin to drop to 10 and 3 in planetside the fps counter says its running on the CPU.

Update:
-installed old PSU

-loud fan noise is the recently cleaned CPU fan (it was really dusty around the fan)

-frame rate is back up

-quite baffled to as why my frame rate is so bad when using new PSU

I'm not sure as what to do next, should I send the new PSU back for a different one?
I can't find any reliable sites for the same exact power supply model as the old 450w.

Well it seems like it's clearly the psu issue. Go with an antec, seasonic, or xfx psu next and see if there are still issues.
