Hi, I recently replaced the motherboard in my desktop, and switched from a wired connection to wireless. I'm using a Belkins N150 adapter, and the connection is so PAINFULLY slow.

I should be getting 20mbps. These are the results I get when running a speed test.

Right now, I'm relying on a wifi-repeater attached via ethernet. And I'm reduced to about 5 mbps on a good day. I'd like to ditch the wifi repeater, and rely solely on my wireless adapter, but .39 mbps is just unbearable. I'm not sure if it's the Belkins adapter that's tormenting me with these horrible speeds, or if it's the new motherboard (ASRock Z77 Extreme3).

Speeds are fine when hard wired, so I don't think it's my linksys router. Belkins adapter was working just fine on old computer (can't check right now.. I don't have another laptop or desktop to try the adapter on)

I have tried installing a new driver for it, but it didn't help. May have installed the wrong one, but I doubt it. I've tried disabling firewall and anti-virus, but no luck.

Any help is appreciated.

N150 isn't that fast. There's also N300 or N600 which would be faster. Even if your modem/router is faster it'll go down to the adapter's speed. It wont go as fast as the modem's speed

What speed does the linksys router support?

The adapter was was being used by a family member, and it would get speeds up to 10mbps at their place. However, the distance between my pc and the router is much, much farther. Could that make such a significant difference in the speed? My router supports speeds up to 300mbps.

That adapter only goes to 150, not 300. Thats why it's called the N150.

So even if the router supports up to 300, the adapter wont. You would have to change the adapter to one that goes to 300 (N300)
