I have a new H97 AsRock motherboard with an i5 and a new Corsair H55 water cooler. The systems keeps powering up for a second then shorting. Checked all RAM and front panel connectors about 2000 times now. Is there something I don't know, I have built dozens of PC's.

Also my air cooler is kaput so I can't test it with that.

Did you check that the mobo supports that CPU out of the box?? Without a BIOS update?

No I thought the board was backwards compatible with the i5's

It may be compatible but the BIOS on the mobo when you buy it, has to have the right BIOS on it first..

To support the CPU youre installing

Is there a way to change that when it won't boot at all?

Nope. You can try taking it into a PC shop ask if they can flash it with a lower spec CPU, then flash it then put yours back in. Or you'll have to buy another lower spec CPU then do it
