So now that I'm finally getting a new computer, I wan to dedicate this one to be a 24/7 server my buddy and I's games. However we have used Hamachi in the past, it is unreliable. I'd like to port forward but my dad owns the router and he doesn't want me messing with it. So i've decided to just use the DMZ (De-militarized zone) function of the router on my old computer that we're gonna use as the server since it'd be alot easier to just make the IP static and just set that IP to DMZ in the settings.
HOWEVER, here is where my question comes in, since i'm opening all ports to allow for much less hassle for the game server we're running i'm left out in the open for cyber hacks. So what are some programs that run really well for small time servers that are either cheap or free.

I already have Kaspersky running for about another year, then when that runs out i'll probably turn on Symnantec's functionality again (I turned it off because it kept saying every 5 minutes that there was some Windows 7 function that was trying to contact the outside world and that it blocked it, needless to say it got annoying). It's just I don't know if those will protect me if i technically have all ports open.

Thanks for the read, any software is better than none.:D
