New Graphics Card Problem

So a couple days ago I purchased a new AMD Radeon R9 280 off newegg and it came pretty quick which was nice. I installed it correctly and everything, was a little stressful on some of the power connector wires that's about it. Woke up this morning everything was fine. Came home and started up my computer. Was trying to install new games while trying to connect audio devices and my display started acting up, blue/white vertical lines came down in 5 rows and pixels were flickering. I tried to reinstall the drivers I had... it did help for a little bit but then a gray screen with black lines came up. This is really weird because the other day I could play Call of Duty Black Ops II on it on ultra settings 60FPS just fine... What's the problem and is there anyway to fix it? EDIT: Originally had a nVidia Geforce GT 630 2GB that worked fine for a year. I also have a BFG GS 650W power supply that has lasted me a year no problems also.

Thanks,
-Chris N.

Mmm, I guarantee it's a faulty card. So many issues with new AMD cards lately. Return it and get a GTX 970 C;

Did you connect the external PCI-e connectors which are required in R9 280
and if you've connected it then for sure its a faulty card

I did at first then when I saw the problem I moved it over...why what's wrong with the external PCI-e connectors?

if your pci connectors aren't connected than there usually startup and pixel problems occur cause your GPU isn't receiving the required wattage

There is 2 LED's indicating that both connectors are connected. They both were green the other day when the extended one was plugged in so both had power

What's RMA? heard of it somewhere on Newegg just didn't know exactly what it is. I know for sure I could get a replacement on it.

I'm just angry that I saw so many good reviews on this card and no one else had the same problem on this extension connector thing. When I get the replacement, i'll be sure to throw the extension connector cable in the trash bin.

I mean return, yeah. I'm not sure what you mean by extension, but you shouldn't need it.

Okay, so i'm returning it tomorrow. But once I do get the replacement back, what should I do different this time so that the problem doesn't happen again? Someone did mention the 8 pin to 6 + 6 pin molex being the problem.

that wouldn't be an issue
the single 8 pin connector would be fine

How is it a bad PSU? My old graphics card(Geforce GT 630) works just fine in it. It's only when I install this card when the problems occur.

Okay, I checked my bios and the CPU, Ram and everything else is getting the correct voltage, my PSU fan is spinning, all fans are working... no way this can be a PSU problem cause everything is working.

There is a huge difference in power requirements between a low end GT630 and a R9 280!

A GT 630 will only pull about 65w, the r9 280 will pull up to 250w! Just because it works fine on the 630 doesnt mean it will with the 280.

That does not mean its not a PSU problem. If you think that determines that its not the PSU, then no wonder you are having trouble...

Well I also had a 9800GTX+ that worked fine and that takes up more power then the R9 280. Is there anyway I can figure out if my PSU is dead...?

Again, not even close. The 9800gtx only pulls 140w, still far less.

The only way to be sure is to get a better PSU (650w is still fine, just needs to be good quality), and test. Or test the card in another computer.
