Yep, i5 4440 is fine for 970, and for gaming. For video editing however, I'd go with FX 8350, which, due to more cores, will be better in video editing.

Any bottleneck will be minimal, and it will serve you very very well. :)

You're good on bottleneck, a great combo, You may need a hair more cpu for sli.

If you were just video editing, sure, but... why in the world would you sacrifice gaming power for ever so slightly faster video renders?

Also, it's a moot point, because t sounds like the OP has the CPU already anyways.

Yeah, i5 4440 + GTX 970 is a great combo.
If you want to future proof your CPU, go for the i5 4690K. :)

That is what I mentioned in my first statement, no doubt i5 is unbeatable in gaming, but, if he want a rig for video editing on which he can game too, FX 8 makes sense. Depends a lot on his priorities though.

keeping in mind there are still quite a few rendering programs that don't use the fx's 8 cores and the i5 is faster in a few of them. The gtx970 can also be used for rendering in cuda enabled apps.

For gaming gotta go Intel. Might want to think of a locked i7 and a H97 mobo instead. For video editing the i7 is king.

Agreed, you'll not want to loose out on gaming performance, all the rendering softwares will not utilize all 8 cores efficiently and we can use GPU acceleration on many apps too. Also added to the fact Intel is more upgradable (say to i7 or Xeon), I agree its a wise decision.

But there do exist some softwares which will benefit from 8 cores, as well as a couple games like BF series (can't really think of much else) which will get better results on FX 8 vs i5 non-K. But then talk about upgradibility. I understand the pros and cons, but just wanted to keep the opinion forward for a clearer view and more choice.

^ I getcha. But it's true, there isn't really much point in getting an AMD CPU right now.
