Hello.

So built my own tower not too long ago and I happen to want to use my DVD drive to watch a movie. I have 2 drives, one dvd and one BlueRay/DVD (Both Asus models). I cannot get them to run the disks correctly. I tried 3 different disks in both drives, I tried all sorts of fixes to include uninstalling the drivers and rebooting. Have also set the region settings also just in case, no luck.

Funny thing is that it WILL run the cd that came with the drive, but that is only to install a burning program and some "Power saving / management" program.

It will detect the disks, but not run them. It will also sees all the files on the disk but will not "autoplay" Or bring up the dvd menu, or just straight play it.

Here is a screenshot of what it shows "On disk" if that helps:

The title of the dvd is also listed, so it is "reading / seeing" the disks just not running it. Any ideas would be great.
Oh I have Windows 8.1 forgot to add that.

Thanks in advance.

Look in device manager under their entries. Does it say theyre working or is there an error code??

Usually when dvds or cds dont work they can give an error 19. Which means something thats installed has added itself to lowerfilters and upperfilters in the registry

This stops them from working at all. Info about that here

I don't think Windows 8.1 includes DVD playing software. Try installing something like VLC.

It appears you might be missing DVD / Blu-Ray player software such as PowerDVD. Download that (or similar media player software) and you'll be set to go... (btw... just fyi.. Windows Media Player alone doesn't play DVDs without having installed an appropriate DVD decoding codec.)

You need a media player that can play those codecs.
