Check you've used the right ports on the GPU and monitor.

Plug in a 7.1 Speaker set.

So the audio system has 3 or 4 x 3.5mm plugs or just one?

What port on the card and what port on the monitor are you using?

the audio has 3 plugs, one yellow, one black, and one green

we're using an HDMI port from the video card to my monitor. Games run great on the computer as far as FPS but everything just looks blurry.

Make sure you've got the audio plugs in the right ports.

On top of the speakers volume icon - bottom LH desktop screen - click speaker at top which will bring up Speaker Properties and check everything is OK.

Try a different monitor. See if you can adjust the monitor controls.
