Recently, a day back, I bought a new 4 GB RAM (Transcend DDR3). My OS- Windows 8 Pro, 32bit.It's just a normal RAM upgrade. But the 4gb does not work. Here's what happens. Whenever I install the 4gb ram (only) and boot up the computer, the monitor does not switch on. It remains in "power saving mode"(lg monitor). The rest of the computer works fine. i.e , the cooling fan spins and the h100i pump works. My mobo is MSI G41m-p26. I even have a Gainward GTX 650 1gb GPU, but i disconnected it(didn't want to troubleshoot with and without gpu every time). My first concern is whether the 32 bit can take in a 4gb ram.Help me. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

What is clocking speed of ur RAM. Acc. to ur description is seems that u having 1600Mhz 4 g.b. RAM ur Motherboard supports onlo 800/1066/1333 Mhz so it isn't supported by ur board. On the label of Ram find some text like 'DDR3 1600' or 'DDR3 1333 Mhz'

[strike][/strike]Sorry guys. Forgot to mention about the ram. Here's the detail that i know. (it's very restricted cuz it was purchased from a local store guy.The only thing he knew about it was that it is a 4gb ddr3 ram, nothin more).
Brand- Trancsend
1333mhz DDR3 ram module.
Thing swritten on the RAM "4gb 1R*8 DDR3 1333 U , 673083-9538 RoHS [1R]" followed by some symbols(like recycle,rohs,logo, etc....)

No, I knew that 1600 would not suit me, this one's 1333.

Yesterday, I even performed a clean install of Windows 8 pro x64 bit. Also, I connected my GTX 650 back and am running my monitor through it.Still the same issue.Maybe, today I'll try it(RAM) on my frnd's computer and we'lll know whether the problem is with the RAM or not.

Is the RAM 2x2GB or 1x4? Have you tried switching the slots of the RAM?

From your manual:
Important
In Dual-Channel mode, make sure that you install memory modules of the same
type and density in different channel DIMM slots.
To ensure a successful system boot-up, always insert the memory modules into
the DIMM1 first.

Many older motherboards do not support the high density 4 gigabit DRAM ICs used in most modern DDR3 memory.

If the DIMM has only a single rank on it (identifiable by having 8 large chips on one side of the PCB, and none on the other side) then it uses the 4 gigabit high density ICs that are not well supported by older motherboards and you are unfortunately out of luck.

If the DIMM has two ranks on it (16 large chips, usually 8 on each side of the PCB) then it uses older 2 gigabit DRAM ICs which should be well supported by the Intel 4 series chipsets. In this case, the DIMM may simply be faulty.

Yes. In fact, I have tried each and every combination possible with my 2 gig and 4 gig sticks.(2g in dimm1 and 4 in dimm2, only 4gig in dimm1 and dimm2.....)

Maybe this is the problem. Can you show a 16 IC 4gb ram (maybe newegg or amazon or etc..)?
But, the current 2GB that I'm running on has only 8 on onside and none on the other(i.e it's a high density one). So, this does mean that my mobo can handle HD RAMs right?

Not necessarily. 2GB constructed from 8 on one side = 2 gigabit DRAM ICs. High density yes, but not as high as the 4 gigabit ones.

Solution

There's no deterministic way to do it, but the size should be telling.

The modules will be either 4 GiB or 8 GiB in size. 4GiB will have chips on one side, 8GiB on both.

OK. I'll end this thread (chose a best answer) after the next couple posts. Isn't this a Low density RAM (telling from the images)

Please chose some low density 4gb rams from this website - www.flipkart.com
