also Pentium only has 2 cores, should i be worried?
if you have good motherboard suggestions let me know,

(pentium budget for mobo: $150)

If you plan on upgrading the CPU again later go with the G3258. It's alright for gaming but it struggles under CPU intensive games and will bottleneck the 970 in those games. If you don't want to upgrade later get the 4430.
Pentium will bottleneck the 970 badly in most games, I'd go for i5 + R9 280 (which's better than 760) or 960 if it comes out for gaming. If you plan to upgrade the CPU soon, then you can go with pentium and later upgrade to i5. But i5 + 760 or 280 or 960 (or whatever it'd be) is the most balanced combo.

Personally I'd go for the G3258 and GTX970. The CPU is so cheap you can easily replace it when money allows. It also clocks extremely well, so well you'll likely be very happy with it for the foreseeable future. When it does start to struggle just replace it with i5 for even more gaming goodness. You mention $150 for budget Pentium... I seriously doubt it's anywhere near as much as that, G3258 is less than £50 in the UK. If you're in doubt just check the reviews for that G3258, I think you'll be quite surprised when it's highly clocked.

Oh, I understand your budget now. It's for CPU and MB. Can you get Z97 and G3258 within your budget? I know some Z97 boards are actually quite cheap.

I'd seriously suggest you check out the reviews and the overclocking ability of the G3258, you will surely be surprised for the money. It's not so much a bottleneck as some would have you believe, for gaming anyway.

You'd not get the desired performance with 970. Pentium will SERIOUSLY bottleneck the card. Almost all latest titles perform best with quad core.

Also, 100 bucks is a fine budget for mobo. It depends on the fact if you want to SLI in future. You'd want a Z mobo for that, Z97MX gaming 5 is $106 on NCIX after mail in rebate.

I´m sorry to say this but I´m seing to much bad information here...
Ppl are spaming that the G3258 will bottleneck the GTX970, that is bulls***. Afcourse it's not the ideal setup but, personaly, I don´t consider 5 to 10fps a HUGE bottleneck...
Considering that 90% of the games relly almost exclusively on the GPU and after checking inumerous reviews of the G3258, I really think the G3258 + GTX970 is a viable option.
With the G3258 + GTX970 he will get a better mobo (capable of sli) and a MUCH better GPU, If in 1year or so he wants to upgrade to a better CPU (an i7 or an i5 better then 4430) and buy another GTX970, he will have a great PC that will endure for years.
However, If he goes with your "bottleneckless" solution!
1st- the cpu is better then the G3258, however it´s not even close to the best CPU and the difference in FPS for gaming (because it´s what he wants) between the i5 4430 and the G3258 it´s almost NONE!
2nd- Do I really need to talk about the difference between a GTX 760 and a GTX 970?!
3rd- The mobo will be much worst
4th- The overall longevity of his PC will be lower then a G3258.

I would buy a G3258 and a GTX970 over an i5 with a GTX760 everyday.
In fact, after seeing this thread, I´m going to the shop to get them... :p

Just one more thing, instead of just posting comments on other peoples threads, try to give an answer that will actualy help... Spaming "BOTTLENECKSSSS" without even reading reviews on the G3258 is just crazy...

Some halfwits on here peddling crap as facts. Check the link I posted to enlighten yourself. It's a review and comparison of the G3258 up against much more expensive CPU's, done by TomsHardware themselves. LukaBoki... do yourself a favour and read it. G3258 + GTX970 vs i5 + GTX760 = The first combo will smash it in games and gives much greater scope to get more performance by adding a better CPU as funds allow in the future.

I'm with Jose Fernades 100% on this.

That's what it comes down to...what games is he playing. The G3258 in multiplayer on BF4? That's not happening.
