Anytime I try to install a new piece of software I get the message.

The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance.

I've been searching for ages and the most common solution seems to be going into CMD and typing msiexec.exe /unregister and then re-registering but when I try to I get this.

The program or feature "/??/C:/Windows/system32/msiexec.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit windows compatible version is available

I've been searching for ages and can't find anything that works. I'd rather not have to factory restore as I have hundreds of GB of games I don't want to have to reinstall. Anyone know how to fix this?

Are you trying to install a 32-bit OS onto a 64 bit hard drive? I had a similar problem with my laptop. If this is the case, then you can get a 64 bit installation and try using that instead.
