My new build won't turn on

I built my first build with these components:
i7-4790k
Asus Maximus VII Hero
8 gb Corsair Vengeance Pro 2400 Mhz
GTX 980 2x SLI
512 gb Samsung 850 Pro SSD
860w Corsair ax860

When I try to power the system on by turning on the psu and pressing the power button, the only thing that happens is the motherboard LEDs and the "start" and "reset" buttons light up. I tried pressing those buttons, but nothing happens. No fans spin up, no sound comes out, the monitor stays black. There is a possibility that I damaged my motherboard during assembly. Can someone help me? My motherboard manual is not very helpful and I have already read through the installation process and turning it on.
BTW My h100i was defective so I'm temporarily using the stock heatsink.

Are you SURE that you have EVERYTHING plugged in properly? CPU fan plugged in? Is your RAM seated properly? Before ever turning your new build on, always make sure that everything is properly hooked up. Unplug your power supply and have a look inside your case and check everything I mentioned above. If something is loose or not plugged in, fix it.

By the way, are you getting an error code on the motherboard LED? If so, what is it?

Thanks for replying. I checked and every component is where they should be. I'm very sure everything is plugged in correctly. There is no error code on the motherboard LED. The case doesn't light up, either. It's a fractal design define r4. Pressing the power button doesn't do anything. Only turning the psu on lights up the motherboard. Does this mean that there is a severe hardware failure?
