Quick advice needed on CPU Upgrade!

I have the chance to buy an i7 3770K for relatively cheap (well within an emergency fund I have for unexpected upgrade opportunities) but I'm not sure if it's worth it. Currently have an i5 3570K, and will soon be getting my hands on an GTX970 - besides this new GPU, I don't plan on upgrading anything else for at least a year (if not longer) - hence this little dilemma: stick it out with the i5 or get the i7 which would truly maximize the maturity potential of my current system (potentially pushing back the upgrade plan by maybe another year). I am genuinely open to suggestions on this since I am pretty much down to 50/50. Thanks!

Keep the i7 which you have now and invest the extra money on the gtx 980.The 3570k may be kinda old but it's strong enough to power up a 780ti/290x/980. So,buy the gtx980 or you can save your money and buy the gtx970.

Upgrading to a 3770K now, will let you comfortably put any video card in your system for the next 3-4 years or even longer - until the next generation of consoles.

But there is another side. What is your current video card?

I don't think it would be a worthy upgrade, unless you can get it for less than $100 bucks.

Well, so there's no clear consensus on this - I suppose my current i5 OC'd to 4.4 will handle the GTX970 quite nicely, so no real need or overwhelming benefit to dropping the $180 on the i7. Yes, I know the i7 is better, but not for gaming, and I suppose the synthetic benefits of the 3770 over the 3570 isn't a deal-breaker for me. I decided to hold off until a general platform update I planned to do in a year or so. Thank you sourodip, michaelhall, Shneiky and Calculatron for your insight - appreciated!
