Hello.
Bought new CPU few months ago (i5 4570 3,2ghz) with Z97 PC mate motherboard. Have my old graphic card (HD 7870 Sapphire) and I want to buy new GPU ( MSI GTX 770 ) http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N770_TF_2GD5OC.html#hero...

The thing I'm not sure about my PSU, is it gonna hold the system. Here's the link of my current one
http://www.silverstonetek.com/product.php?pid=362

Thanks in advance. I appreciate any suggestions

1. Get a 970 , its about the same price but much better and MUCH lower TDP (148w vs 228w)

2. If you get a 970 a 500w PSU is recommanded (for MSI card by MSI website)

3. Get a 600w and furter PSU its more safe.

For a system using one GTX 770 Nvidia recommends a minimum power of 600watts with 42amps on continuous power on the +12V rail(s), rated at 50C with one 8-pin and one 6-pin PCI-E power connections.
Wattage is not the crucial specification but rather the amount of current that can be delivered on the 12v rail measured in amperage.

Your PSU does not meet the suggested power requirements in that it has only 34amps on the 12V rail.

You could probably run that card for awhile on that PSU simply because your system is not going to use 100% power all the time: But if you are gaming or doing other video and CPU intensive tasks you may find yourself short of power. The video card itself should top-out at approx. 10-11 amps, but there are all the other components to run and the more time your PSU stays at full power or nearly so, the shorter its life expectancy.

Glad to make suggestions, but need to know where you live so I can find a place for you to shop.

Do you need any PSU suggestions? and if so what is your budget?

I like your forum name. Reminds me of a pilot's saying: "If an engine fails on a multi-engine aircraft you will always have enough power to reach the crash site."

Don't have any budget restriction, but still I'm not gonna waste too much unneccessary money for some high end PSU that I don't need for this kind of comp setup. You can tell me which one would be good enough to satisfy the needs. I would be geatful.

So I can go to a website that you can use, do you live in the U.S./Canada or are you overseas?

Europe, Croatia to be exact. Don't bother with that now, you explaned me about current, I know what you meant, because I remember now that I had same problem when I was buying hd 7870 last year, he needed 34 amps on 12V. So I'll talk to my seller to find me one good enough. Thanks a lot for help. Grettings from Croatia

Roger that. Here are a couple links to help in the future. The first two list power requirements for video cards.
The other two are similar lists of quality and not-so-good power supplies; neither has ALL PSU's but they can help in deciding what to buy and researching the manufacture and brand names. The last two are excellent sites for PSU reviews.
