Hey everyone,

So pretty much in a nut shell I'm feeling a little upset about this. I'm hoping someone can relate with this. I'm in school for Computer Networking, I graduate in February. 6 months ago I landed my first IT job. I feel like no matter how hard I bust my a** at work and at school I still run into a lot of things that I don't know. Is this normal? Am I just being to hard on myself?

There are so many things about computers it is unbelievable. None of us know everything, in fact, there is more stuff the majority of don't know than what we do know. What in particular are you referring to that you don't know, or is it a generalization?

"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

Keep that in mind and you will be fine.

Do you have any good techniques of keeping up with it? I know I'll never be the smartest person in the world but how do I stay up to date? Meaning how do I continue to learn in a good pace? I just feel like I don't know where to go from here. I learn stuff in school and at work but when I'm home I don't know what to really look up or do.

Other than talking with Senior IT's & Viewing Tech Forums, It will come to You. As soon as You think you have mastered something, New tech comes out & you have to learn it. Stick with it and Soon enough you won't be overwhelmed & you will accept The new tech as a challenge to learn. It took me a good Couple of years to feel comfortable & I still go to more Senior people for advice. Nothing wrong with asking Others for advice & help. They started out the same as you & needed help. Some day others will be asking You for advice & help.
