It should be able to support other AM2 chips but it's hard to say which CPUs (such as the old Phenom X3 and X4 chips) with OEM locked down motherboards that don't always have great support and latest BIOS versions so you'll probably have to check on the Dell support site with that motherboard model.

Even so, an upgrade for that system wouldn't really be worth it as you won't get much of a performance boost whilst paying a fair bit. Sad to say it but that system is rather outdated at this point.

If you're a gamer then you could purchase a cheap video card as an upgrade over the 610 (preferably something like a GDDR5 version of the r7 250 or a cheaper card if your budget is tight), you'll definitely notice the difference. That system won't hold up too well in the latest games but a small upgrade should at least enable you to play most games out there.

HI,rolandzhang3,I was looking my question and it was about a CPU,it should have said GPU my bad there is i think only 1 chip above what i put in this PC and it is a +6400 which the people have installed say it runs hotter.
There are people putting in 2GB each sticks of ram for a total of 8GB'S of ram i have had to replace the MB in this PC thats when i got a free upgrade i went from 1.1.14 to 1.1.18.,thank,s

Getting more DDR2 wouldn't be worth it since you can't use it with a future build.

If you're thinking of replacing the motherboard then you might as well get a cheap upgrade to a modern platform like a Pentium G3258 or an Athlon X4 750K, whichever one is cheaper with a cheap kit of DDR3 RAM, you'd need to reinstall Windows though.

As for now a cheap GPU upgrade should do, just about any card you get would be an improvement over that 610 lol.

No worries, you most likely need a single slot card since the BTX motherboard does not really give you any more clearance room.
