I'm pretty sure one of my sticks is faulty, but i don't have the money right now to replace it. I currently have 4 sticks of 4gb installed. Can i just remove to of them to fix my problem? Or do i have to go through some sort of process or something? if so, which ones? the 2 sticks on the right of the motherboard (2011)? the left? of from each? I'm not too good with computers.

More so, how can i find out which one(s) are faulty?

More about : 16gb ram

Power off, remove stick, power back on. That's all there is to it.

Yes you can remove 2 sticks just fine. Your motherboard likely has a specific two slots it wants the remaining two to be in. What is the make and model of your motherboard?

When you say you think the ram is faulty do you mean it only shows 12mb of ram (instead of 16) or it is unstable? You can use a bootable program called memtest86, have it run 4 passes and it will find which stick is bad for you if it is just unstable.

Most all ram makers provide lifetime warraty if this is not an OEM (HP, DELL, etc) computer. You just need purchase receipt and model numbers, fill out their online forms, ship it to them, and they will ship you new memory back under the warranty.

Usually the RAM slots are coloured and placed A B A B or 1 2 1 2 if you prefer numbers :)  just remove the broken ones if you know which one it is and its done. If you dont know how the slots are placed, look it up in the manual of your motherboard.

Edit: since I saw its a 2011 socket your (dual)channel setup should whether be left or right. So yes, remove 2 bricks on one side

My motherboard is the gigabyte x79-up4 and my 4 sticks are in each of the gray slots.
My computer does show that i have 16gb of ram, but ive been having problems with programs just randomly closing on me, and errors with steam (google searches suggested ram was the problem, chrome pages constantly giving me an error (said a cause could be faulty ram), and a bunch of other stuff that is generally telling me my ram is bad.

I will go through with the warranty, but as for the weekend, i just want to use my computer :(

Is there a tutorial for using memtest, setting up the boot, and then putting it back to normal? Im a nooby when it comes to this stuff, and i would hate to make my problem worse than it already is.
