Hi, i have had my XFX 7970 card for a year now and i cant stand it it handles fine on certain single player games like batman arkham origins maxed out but when i play battlefield 4 on medium setting it messes about and the frames drop constantly. I tried to use MSI afterburner to over clock i did it slightly but the my HDMI monitor started glitching out
I even have to start lowering the graphics setting on games it works well with because is makes too much noise and gets too hot.
Is there a way i can improve my card?
Thanks.
P.S im running windows 8.1

What are the other components in your PC? PSU, CPU, motherboard, ram?
Have a good look at the airflow setup in your case, is the gpu heat being taken away adequately by the case fans or do you have a blower style gpu cooler? A link to the exact model of xfx card you have would be very helpful please

CPU: AMD 8320
PSU: Corsair CX750 Watt
Case: Sharkoon T9 ATX http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sharkoon-Value-ATX-Case-CPU/dp/...
GPU link: http://www.amazon.co.uk/XFX-Radeon-Edition-GDDR5-Graphi...
I removed the plastic cover on the side of the case to air it out because the heat was making my PC to crash

The 7970 is definitely a good card still, it was not long ago one of the best. I'm sure theres gotta be something wrong here. What are the temps of the gpu when gaming?Usually 62-64°c but when i'm gaming 90°c.
YAO, thats toasty. My xfx card runs warm as well, so I feel your pain, but not that warm. I would contact xfx if I was you, since your card has a lifetime warranty, maybe thell hook you up with a new one.

Does your PC sit on carpet or a hard surface? If it's a hard surface your psu would fare better with the fan facing downwards as right now it's probably sucking in all the hot air from the gpu. As for the airflow to the gpu, there does seem to be a lot of cabling hanging in the way of the fresh air supply from the front fans and I can't tell from your photo where the hdd is in relation to the card.
Try tidying up the cabling a bit, can you route it behind the motherboard tray perhaps? Flip the psu as it may be causing funny airflow unless it's on carpet. If the hdd is placed just below the height of the gpu, try lowering it a bit. Basically just try to give your card as much fresh air from outside and encourage the hot air out of the top rear fan

The drive is at the bottom, you can just see it in the bottom right corner. I would try and clean it up a little, it looks quite dusty, and try and cable ties those cables to the motherboard tray, or reroute them behind. I have to lay on my back side panel for it to go on, thanks to small and stupid cases.

Flip the psu over if there is ventilation holes on the bottom of the case for it.

Wouldn't the heat the PSU generates cause it to over heat because the four rubber legs that keep the case from sitting on the table aren't that big
