I'm planning on building my first computer and wondering what you guys think of what I came up with so far:

Approximate Purchase Date: Once I can find the Asus GTX 970
Budget Range: I want to spend at most $1500 on the parts and around $400 on Peripherals. If you can see anywhere I can save some money that would be great.
System Usage: Mostly gaming and maybe some streaming/youtube.

I have few questions. Mainly if any of the parts are overkill, like the motherboard and power supply. Also I'm not sure what kind of case would be good to fit everything. I appreciate any help, Thanks.

Why would you need a Xeon for gaming, and such an expensive monitor? I would get something more along the lines of this:

Ok i'll definitaly look into a cheaper motherboard.

Ok I think I might scale back on some of my original parts and keep the gtx970 and save some money.

Also is 850W power supply needed or is that too much also.

If you dont plan to overclock get a Xeon E3 1231 V3 and a H97 Motherboard. If you plan to overclock get the I7 4790k or the I5 4690k and definetly a cheaper MB. The PSU is oversized. You should be fine with a 500w psu, probably gold certified but bronce is enough thou. 16GB ram is recommended if youre doing video/photo editing. if not or not that much 8 GB are enough for gaming nowadays.
Edit: Storage is too expensive. Go with a WD red or blue.

On a $1700 budget that gives you $300 for whatever monitor, keyboard and mouse you want.

The xeon because if he isnt going to overclock its the cheaper option with the advantages of an i7. And I only picked the expensive monitor because i had budget left ;)
And why would he need a 850w psu? Unless he is going sli
