So i think my q6600 (G0) is running a bit hot but i'm not sure

i put it in about 3 weeks ago and have idle temps of about 40c and load of about 65

this is all stock speeds (not the stock fan)

I had a core 2 duo e6300 Overclocked to 2.66ghz with this same fan and as5 and had idle of 35 with load of about 60 so i find it odd that this is getting higher temps without any overclock. I've reseated and applied the paste about 5 times now and nothing different either.

Looking around on google i see a lot of posts about changing the tjmax from 100 to 90 for the q6600 but i also see a bunch of posts saying that its not true.

Also one of the cores (3rd one) seems to be about 8-10 degrees lower, which seems odd as well.

well i have an abit ab9 pro and all the voltages are set to auto

it says its a 1.3250, and i can see it drops lower than that sometimes too. (probably because my multiplier goes down to 8 sometimes?)

i was just wondering about the whole tjmax at 90 thing, because the temperatures seem more normal at that. And if it is that means i'll be able to OC it.

I don't know because it isn't officially published by Intel. I'm more concerned by Tjmax (95°C) and Tc (71°C) for a G0 stepping than the offset. If it doesn't throttle at full load, then it's fine. Besides you probably didn't pay much for that old CPU and it should last for several more years even if the temperature sometimes exceeds 70°C. Other than running benchmarks, a CPU rarely runs at 100% load.

Problem is you can't accurately measure the temperature with a program and that's why I provided the Anandtech link. Run Prime95 or Intel Burn Test (no application will make the CPU hotter than IBT) and monitor the speed to determine if it throttles. Why the 65°C limit? It will throttle at a much higher temperature and shutdown at 100°C or more. Don't worry too much because you don't have an expensive CPU and that Q6600 is almost undestructible. How fast do you plan on overclocking it?
