My Athlon x2 250 is currently running at 60*c - 80*c I want to use my cooler from my old CPU/motherboard, but I do not have any thermal paste however there is thermal paste on both my current cpu and my old cooler. My question is would I be able to get away with not applying new thermal paste?

Solution
The old paste will be irregular and form a barrier and uneven surface that will prevent good contact between the CPU and the heatsink - thus exactly the opposite of what thermal paste is supposed to do.

Your plan is worse than putting the two components together without thermal paste.
