I am building my first computer. I have done an out of case build. I've installed the CPU, RAM, and heatsink in the motherboard. When I connect the PSU and hit the power button, the fans spin for about a second then it turns off, and repeats that after about 4 seconds. Nothing is displayed on my monitor. Any ideas? Could the RAM not be compatible?

P.S. I have tried breadboarding

My parts (All brand new)
Motherboard - Gygabite Z87X-OC
RAM - Kingston HyperX Fury (2x4Gb)
CPU - Intel core i5 4690
PSU - Corsair CX500M

More about : system boots turns repeats problem

I would say because that CPU is a Haswell refresh CPU which is recent the BIOS on the mobo now, doesn't have the right BIOS on it (it needs F8 to support that CPU). Result it wont boot or post or turn on

Only options you may have (if this is the case), is take it back to the shop / ask them to flash it with a lower spec CPU then put yours back in. Then it'll work. Or you'll have to buy a lower spec CPU and do this

i5-4690 3.50GHz 6MB 350 MHz / 1200 MHz Haswell Refresh 22nm C0 84W 100 F8 <- thats the BIOS you need for this CPU.

Since the latest BIOS on the GB site is a beta (which you shouldnt flash), this would be the latest BIOS on the site

Thank you for the reply. That sounds right to me, but instead of trying to update the BIOS on my mobo, I bought my stuff online, I could exchange my motherboard. Would a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H mobo work? Thanks again.

Check the gigabyte site. On what BIOS it needs. If its still the same CPU you may still have to update the BIOS on the mobo first
