I upgraded a few months ago.

Im with a 8GB ram ddr3 , i5 4670k @ 4.4ghz and a GTX 980.

All i do is gaming.

Is it necessary to upgrade motherboard and ram and cpu or am i fine ?

Solution
Geek answer:
Yes. Every time there is a new generation of CPU, GPU, RAM, or fan LED color, you must update on day one. Otherwise, you are behind the curve.

Rational answer:
You are fine.

Hey,

Have you heard of the saying "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?

You only need to upgrade if the performance you are getting doesn't satisfy you. If you only wanted to upgrade for bragging rights then I can show you a pcpartpicker build that costs $45 000 and unfortunately won't give you more FPS in games than a $2 000 build.

If everything works well then there is no need to upgrade. If in a couple of years your system can't keep up with latest games then you could consider upgrading.

Fair enough but would this new CPU gives more frames in games than an overclocked haswell 4670k i5 ?

In certain game you might see a FPS increase but it won't be noticable. If you are currently playing a game with 90 FPS and it goes up to 93 FPS it won't make any difference. I can understand if a game was running at 45 and with the new CPU goes up to 60 FPS - but this won't happen.

So in a short answer , im good as i am. If i want fps increase with my current CPU all i need to do is change the GPU. Atm im with the GTX 570 but will be getting a GTX 970 SLI or GTX 980.

Your CPU is a great gaming CPU. If you are playing on 1080 p then a single 970 or 980 is more than enough. A SLI 970 on 1080 is overkill and unjustified waste of money in my opinion.

If in a couple of years you need more juice then you can add a second 970 or 980 accordingly but for now (and again if it's 1080p) you will be more than happy with a single card.

Yes i play on a 1080p 29'' screen. I was going for the SLI so that ill still get high fps in future games (futue proof) , although i know i will be more than satisfied with a single GTX 980.
