Hey I just installed a MSI R9 290x Gaming 4g card into my system. The problem is when I am gaming my computer will restarts randomly in the middle of playing. This doesn't happen all the time when playing just now and then. But when it restarts I don't get a signal to my screen. I had it on a safe overclock rate of 1060mhz that comes pre-set up for it but just to be safe I dropped it to 1030. So what am I missing here is the memory on the card bad? or what? please help...

So I just checked my power supply needs on extreme power supply site and since I upgraded my card I now need at least a 750w supply. Thanks for the help with that. but why does the display not show when it restarts?

Ususally if your power supply overloads like that sometimes requires a reseat of the card or ram also you might be able to underclock it enough to get away with 600 watts at most that card should be pulling a peak of 350 watts so depending on the rest of your system prob def to much power try sapphire trixx and underclock the card to around 980/1400 and lower the power limit slighty

Also pcpartpicker has a estimated wattage calculator as well might add all your stuff and see what it says your wattage usage is

the other issue if it not your power supply is the gpu fan may not be ramping up. the 290 do run hot and the newer amd driver might not have the right fan ramp in the driver for the card. try using a 3 partty tool like msi afterburner see if the temp and fans are ramping right. if not make them run faster to keep the card cooler soon.
