Hello there, I just created this account because I am having a problem with my laptop and am getting desperate, I got my MSI GT70 laptop about a year and a half ago, it came with win 8 pre installed, never ran into any problems and was just using it yesterday for some work. When I tried to start it up this morning it got stuck on the msi boot screen and didn't proceed for about half an hour, so i switched it off by holding the power button, removed ac charger and battery and held held the power button for a minute then tried to start it again. It showed the msi logo and preparing automatic repair underneath for about a minute and went into a completely black, the screen is still on but only showing black. I know that during this time the laptop rebooted several times, I kept trying to start it up but every time it either shower the msi logo for a long time or preparing auto repair and then a black screen. I also noticed that for a minute or so the hdd light blinks and then stops blinking after that. I don't know what to do about this problem since I'm not really good with computers please help and thanks in advance.

It is hard to fix a desk top, laptops are harder.

You really have to know something, if you are going to fix it.

First get Linux Live CD.
and install it to run from CD.

If it runs, most likely it is a Windows program, but if you get the same problem,, it points to hard ware.

Edit
Will it start in safe mode?

It sounds to me that you windows may have got corrupted when you pressed the power button. You could try and reboot the system from a cd and do a clean install. The reason why the hdd blinks is because the os is trying to set up windows from you hdd. Whenever it reads or write something on the hdd, it should blink.
