Hi I am an android game developer and mostly use Desktop Computer for all my development purposes. But recently due increased travelling I thought that I should setup side by side development environment on my 4 year old laptop.
The Configuration of the same is:
Dell Studio 1558

Intel i5 processor
4GB DDR3 RAM
ATI AMD Mobility Radeon 5470 1GB
500GB HDD
OS Windows 7 + Elementary OS

But this laptop is running so slow that it takes around 10 seconds to just open up My Computer. And for Android Studio and other apps it takes much longer. I have tried Windows 7, Ubuntu, Fedora, Elementary OS, but the same results everywhere. It does works good otherwise on linux but for development apps it becomes slow.

I use Android SDK Manager, AVD Manager, Emulator, Android Studio, etc.
Emulator has never started on this machine.

I have tested the HDD for bad sectors and found none.
Please help me. Thanks!

Remove temp files with ccleaner. Defrag it. Remove any entries in startup that dont have to be there

Could be the hdd, they dont last forever. An SSD would probably be faster / a lot faster
