Back plate for GPU

Can backplate extend the durability of GPU? tempted to get MSI gtx 970 but no backplate for it.

All a back plate does is generally: very slightly reduces the heat from the PCB, If the card is long it helps it not to warp overtime, and for looks!!!

The 970 is so small and light I would honestly not worry too much about a backplate.
