Hello, I decided to come to this forum in order to ask about a problem with a new PC I have just recently built for my girlfriend. More specifically, it will not boot and only gives me the reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media.

Basically, I picked up a gigabyte ga z97x as well as an i7 4790k. The installation was smooth, her case (nzxt Phantom 410) was spacious and the motherboard went in just fine, however upon completion, the computer posted and then went right to a black screen showing "reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media".

I have tried both of my HDDs from my computer with windows 7 on them, and it will show this for both of them. I have also been in the BIOS and noted that it is correctly reading the CPU at 4.4 ghz, 8 gigs of ram and an ambient 30 c on the CPU temp. I also noted that the BIOS is seeing the HDD, but it seems to not want to boot to windows from them.

I feel like I am missing something, so advice or tips would be greatly appreciated! :D

My guess is you installed Windows 7 on these drives in another computer and master boot record is on another drive.
You can't just move an operating system from one PC to another and expect it to work properly anyway.
You need to boot from a Windows DVD or USB bootable media and install Windows on this drive, in this computer.

What is your boot priority set to? Also, an existing copy of Windows probably won't fully boot on a new mobo/cpu install - IF you are extremely lucky, you can boot to safe mode (this fails most of the time) and remove all drivers and reboot. Sometimes Windows will boot - but most of the time it will not.

You will need a bootable USB thumb drive or a Windows DVD to install the OS.

Thanks for the response! That actually makes a lot of sense :p  I will try using a windows 7 boot disk (didn't have it on hand at the time)
