I recently purchased the Seagate 5TB Expansion HD. I opened the case and put it into my desktop for use as an internal drive. I noticed that the drive had three partitions (two large and one small). I wasn't able to use the drive internally in this configuration so I deleted the partitions and created a single GPT partition. Once that was completed I started transferring files over to the drive and noticed that it was having serious performance issues. The data transfer would start off normally at around 100MB/s and then drop as low as 0Kb's. The data rate continued to fluctuate in this manner for the entire duration of the transfer.

I wasn't able to find any information on this. My problem now is that when I put the hard drive back in the original enclosure I'm unable to create a new volume. I can only use it as an internal drive but with terrible performance. Can I create a RAID 0 on the single disc so that the drive functions at full capacity? I have a feeling that the circuit board in the enclosure had a RAID controller built into it which is why the drive didn't mount when I initially put it in my desktop. Any suggestions on how I can get this drive to function properly as an internal drive? To be honest I have no idea how I would even begin to setup RAID 0 on a single drive. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!
