I've been reading alot of threads and articles around the internet and here at Tom's Hardware with regards to my problem but I can't seem find the answers to my questions. I recently got a 3570k and a new Asrock Z77 Extreme6 motherboard. I set it all up, all settings at stock, and tried to run Prime95 for some testing. After a minute or so, one core immediately reaches 99c. After seeing that temp, I immediately stop the Prime95. The idle temps are pretty normal, around 37-40c. So I was wondering if running Prime95 at stock heatsink under stock speed is not advisable? Or did I mount the heatsink incorrectly?

BTW it is on an open test bench so I'm not really sure if airflow is the problem.

ITS NORMAL FOR THE CPU TO GET THAT MUCH...

ITS NORMAL FOR THE CPU TO GET THAT MUCH HOT WHEN YOU DO A STRESS TEST WITH STOCK COOLER SO ITS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED TO RUN ANY STRESS TEST WITH AN AFTERMARKET COOLER .

SO STOP TORTURING THE CPU AND THERE IS NO MEANING OF DOING THE PRIME 95 TEST ON A STOCK CLOCK THE PRIME 95 TEST IS FOR CHECKING THE STABILITY OF THE PROCESSOR AFTER YOU OVERCLOCK IT.

As the shouty man above me says, do not, ever, ever, run a stress test like that using a stock cooler. The only thing you are going to learn from doing so is what the smell of a burning CPU is like. Go buy yourself a decent aftermarket cooler or an AIO water cooler before you go doing anything like that again.
