Hello everyone! I'm having a problem that has really stumped me. I have a Comtrend wireless router/modem combo. I used to always be able to change my MAC address in it. I have root permissions and access to 192.168.1.1. I used to always be able to "clone the mac address" or change characters in it. For some reason it seems like that option is gone or I can't find it. I need to change my IP for a specific reason and it's really important. I have a dynamic ip, dhcp, and all that stuff with the comtrend router. Does anyone know what the deal is and why I can't find this option anymore? I'm using this higher speed DSL, by the way and I have never really had problems with the ISP.

There may not be a mac address involved with DSL. You are likely thinking of a cable modem connection where you can clone the mac. DSL is based on ATM not ethernet so it does have to have mac addresses to function. You almost always see PPPoA or PPPoE which involves a userid and password. Some ISP assign the id based on this userid. Many times there is a mac address buried in all this but changing it may not have any effect, it depends how the ISP assigns their ip addresses.

Well. I was able to change my MAC address before with the comtrend router and my IP changed. I did it probably 20 times before. All of a sudden I cannot find out how I did it in the router settings.
