I'm currently using a gtx 480, needless to say a untamed beast when it comes to heat and power consumption. And i want to go for a upgrade, with the main concern being low power consumption. But i need some performance boost too.
here are my specs
i7 920 @ 3.0
16 gb kingston hyperx

If low power consumption is the call, nothing beats the GTX 970 in performance/TDP, and more or less value/money. But your current CPU will slightly bottleneck the GPU in single threaded CPU intensive games.

If you have the right MoBo, consider OCing it to around 3.4-3.5GHz to eliminate that, a good guide:

Anything above GTX 760 would be worthy for an upgrade, while being low on power. GTX 970 comes at a sweet price for maxing out any title with comfortable FPS.

Get GTX 970

at least GTX 770 or R9 280X - will give you a boost of 100%
