Hi!

As the title says i'm having very slow speeds on my desktop with high latency (most of the time) even between my pc and the router.

I have two Wi-Fi adapters connected to my PC (PCI-E & USB). I've tried each one without the other, and nothing has changed.

My Mac works flawlessly, as does my phone and my mates laptop.

Some details:
- Router is 5ft away on a horizontal plane.
- Signal has to go through one wall (supporting)
- I'm at University so i can't hop into the router.
- Max download speed achievable is 800KB/s (on my mac & phone)

What tried doing:
- Making sure antennas are secure.
- Moving USB dongle to front panel from Motherboard.
- Switching PCI-E card to another slot.
- Flushed the DNS Cache.
- Relisted/ Renewed I.P. configuration.
- Reinstalled drivers (up-to-date ones from manufactures website)
- Made sure DNS is obtained automatically.

That's what I've done, I've done more but i can't remember!

I'm not sure what to do really. My Macbook Pro gets great signal and speeds, as does my phone. I'll put them in the exact same position as my desktop and they still perform flawlessly.

I've made my phone a hotspot, placed it onto of my desk or the desktop and signal still isn't 100%. Especially on the PCI-E card.. which has the weakest signal.

I think that's everything. I have no idea what do now.. It's so frustrating.

Thanks for any help in advanced.

P.s. I haven't got an Ethernet cable at Uni. My friend has one which i can borrow, but he's visiting at the moment.

Edit:

Mobo - MSI GD55 Z77
PSU - Corsair 650TX
OS - Win7 Ultimate 64bit

PCI-E card - TL-WN881ND
USB Card - TL-WN823N
Router - NETGEAR - DGND3300v2

I don't know who my ISP is..
Download is 6MB (rubbish i know)

Edit #2 - I should've said that the Wi-Fi devices connected to my Desktop can only see a fraction of the networks around me compared to my mac + Phone

Hi! lilpopjim,

First of all for some diagnostics could you try and use the Ethernet cable to see if the problem persists, if so then it could be the ISP's side of things.

Also could I ask which version of operating system you are using?

Solutions:

Have you installing qualcomms drivers? These are greater optimized for your card due the the fact that the wireless chip has been made by qualcomm.

Have you tried turning the power usage of the card to performance instead of powersaving?

From what I see 4mb/s internet plan works out at roughly 800 kb/s

High Jack, thanks for your reply.

As i've said i cant get access to an Ethernet cable until my friend returns from visiting parents, should be home this evening.

Noted in my post i have Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, and that my mac and my phone both perform, somewhat reliably. Though i do believe it's either a router/ ISP issue. I'll need to contact IT support and report the issue tomorrow on a weekday. Hopefully they can do something! I'm a bit busy as, of course i'm at Uni.

I'll go have a look for some Qualcomm drivers. Once installed and tested i'll report back.

I disabled any power saving features in device manager yesterday and anything software related in the utility at the same time.

Thank you.
