Hello. im about to get an r9 280x and replace my old gtx 560ti with it. But i'm not sure if the PSU will handle that gpu. The psu is Tacens Radix V 850. I've seen some reviews of other Tacens models that state it's mostly mid tier stuff. No review of my model tho. That makes me confused. II'm looking for advice. Here's some specs http://obrazki.elektroda.pl/1522186300_1392199687.png

thanks in advance

OK r9 280x is good with a 850 w psu
yep i know but even if your PSU is 60 % Efficient then too it can handle a r9 280x
r9 280x requires a 500w psu

It certainly can't, there's a method of how quality is judged. Its not about wattage, I've seen people with 450W handling 280X, the TDP is 250W and added to that other components of the system, its not hard for very high quality PSUs to handle it. Sadly, lowered tiered PSUs usually have cheap capacitors which easily melt on high loads. 560 Ti has 170W TDP and that of 280X is significantly higher.
There's every possibility it'll fail as the quality is very poor (NOT mid tier). I'd recommend getting a new one, Tacens is an unfavoured brand with high end systems. Also, you should consider the new GTX 970, which, being a bit costlier, give ALOT better performance than 280X/ 290/ GTX 770/ 780 while having 145W TDP which your PSU can handle as it did handle the 560 Ti :)

Gtx 970 seems too expensive for me - is there any gpu at the same/a bit lower level of performance and cost with TDP near 170W that my psu will handle for sure you can recommend? Unfortunately getting both strong gpu and quality psu is no option for me - you know. money :(

GTX 770 would be a better choice or wait for the gtx 960 to arrive

I see that used 280x are cheap so i'd save some money for a good psu. whats the most cheap but quality one you can recommend?

The least expensive 'quality' PSU which'd support 280X would be EVGA 500B, around $35. 600B for $45 for more headroom. The latter would be better if you have FX CPU, for i3 or i5, 500B would do.

My cpu is i5-2400. Thanks for advice - probably i'm going to buy both gpu and psu next week.
btw i've found XFX Core 550w. as i know XFX is also a well known quality brand. how about that one?

Wise decision there, core 550w is a great psu and would handle the build with ease :)
