Hi,

I have a Dell Studio 1558. It's been fine till an hour ago when it didn't start as I kept getting the BSOD at the Starting Windows logo. So I tried logging into Safe Mode to check for any Restore options etc but I was getting the BSOD even in Safe Mode (with/without Networking) and I've linked the BSOD pic here. Dunno if it's the same BSOD message in Safe Mode as it disappeared in a jiffy, so if there's a chance it's a diff one, please let me know and I'll try to grab that pic.

I tried the Startup Repair to no avail. I don't even have any Restore points to get back to. So now I'm kinda stuck.

Did Diagnostics test by pressing F12 at boot, and I got a hard drive error code 2000-0146. But I've had this error for quite some time since a previous problem and had a working laptop, so I don't know how serious this error is this time around.

I have to let you know that the laptop's hinge (where the power button is) has gone kaput. for almost two months now I manually connect the wire to the little Copper-ish plate, with my forefinger to start the laptop. (Telling this to just cover all bases for a better solution)

Please help, as I have some imp work to do with it. I don't mind reinstalling Windows afresh but my Disk drive is dodgy so it doesn't work all the time, to install Windows from DOS.

Thank You.

TL;DR - Laptop won't start as a result of BSOD (link in pic). Not even in Safe Mode. Tried various layman solutions but didn't work.

You drive has now failed. But a new one and re-install the operating system.

Thank You. Apparently that was the problem. Had bad sectors or something like that.
