Hi guys,

Have a bit of a problem with my ASUS GTx 770 card, I can't get the DVI-D port to display when I connect a monitor to it.

What I try and did was connect my 1st monitor to the DVI-I port and the second monitor to a DVI-D port, the DVI-I port works perfectly but not the DVI-D port, no display.

I used a DVI-D to VGA adapter and obviously a VGA cable. Am I correct to say DVI-D is data only?

Even if I connect only to the DVI-D port using the DVI-D adapter and VGA cable, I do not get any display. Maybe I must try and buy a DVI-D to VGA cable? This might work? Don't want to waste my money on something that might work.

The HDMI port is working, I already tested it with my old 43' TV, now have a 3D smart TV which I am not going to use for gaming but for watching TV and it is bolted to the wall. lol.

I need two monitors because I am broadcasting to Twitch and would like to be more interactive with viewers, this is obvious very hard to do if you only have one display, so the second monitor will go for Twitch only and if I am not live streaming then it will work for a map on BF 4

Thanks in advance

Solution
DVI-D = Digital signal
DVI-I = Digial and Analog signals
VGA = Analog signal

A simple DVI-D to VGA adapter is not going to work. You'll need something that actively converts a digital signal to an analog signal or a monitor that accepts a digital signal.

Thanks for the answer and clearing things up about the meaning of each DVI and the VGA (haha me noob, data cable), last question, can I run my LCD 19" monitor plugged into a DVI-D port using a DVI-D to VGA cable or will it be the same function as a DVI-D to VGA adapter? Please see link, if not what can I use to make it work?
