Hi,
I have an XFX Radeon R9 270, connected to a Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Motherboard. Yesterday i had a problem where i couldn't boot, not even to BIOS. Unfortunately i don't have a chassis speaker, so i get no beep tests anyway...
This motherboard has 1 16xPCIe slot and 1 4xPCIe slot. The GPU was originally in the 16x slot, and after reseating it, it appeared to work again - i think i counted 9 or 10 successful boots. I came to it this morning, and it worked for 1 boot. Then when i've come to it again this afternoon it no longer boots again...
I have removed the GPU and everything works as normal (using integrated graphics). I have also tried reseating into the original 16x slot with no luck, and also plugging into the 4x slot with no luck - although i did have to remove all my SATA connectors to get it in the 4x slot, but this shouldn't stop me booting to BIOS right?
Can someone please help me? I'm pretty sure because of this that it's the GPU that's dead, which is a shame because i've only had the whole system for a little over a week...
Specs are as follows;
i7-4790k
Gigabyte Z97P-D3
16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro
XFX Radeon R9 270
1xSSD and 2xHDDs
CoolerMaster 600W PSU
Just to note, i have also tried different power connectors from the PSU to no avail.
Unfortunately I do not have a second motherboard or graphics card to run any further tests.
The fans on the GPU do power up when turned on, after about 5 seconds spin down, and then after about 2 seconds spin back up again. I'm not sure if this is normal behaviour or not, as i never observed/took note of it when it was working.
Any ideas? As i said before i'm 99% sure it's the GPU, but just wanted to check... Again, the system boots as normal WITHOUT the GPU connected, as soon as it's connected however, that's when it doesn't reach BIOS.
Thanks!
Update: actually i just tried to boot again without the GPU and it failed... Does this mean it's the Motherboard? Is there anything i can do besides return it?
