Hello everyone!

I have an ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 motherboard and AMD FX 8320 8-Core CPU and i want to upgrade the RAM and the graphic card!

I was wondering if i have to upgrade my RAM to 8GB (Dual Channel) or 16GB (Dual channel)? And the RAMs which i find are the Kingston Technology HyperX Beast Series 16GB Kit DDR3 at 1866MHz or the Kingston HyperX Beast 8 GB Kit (2x4 GB) 1600MHz DDR3?

Which one of these or another do you suggest? Also i want to change the graphic card, so which one do you propose for these specifications?

Please ask me anything you want or anything that i may had forgotten!

Thank you in advance!!

Solution

Yes it does but in the real world you wont notice any difference... its a bit close like a usb 2.0 pendrive on a 3.0 usb it will still work but should run like a 2.0 not like a 3.0.. but because that's a gpu not a pendrive its les noticeable

well 8 gigs is the sweet spot atm, so no need to get higher. if it's in the budget, sure why not, but it wont realy be utilised.
then for gaming the difference bewteen 1600MHz and 1866MHz isnt noticable. so you're good with 8 gigs 1600MHz ddr3 RAM

if your budget alows you to, you could get 16GB ddr3 1866MHz RAM, to be more futureproof and all. but that's up to you.

That's what i am thinking about the 16GB ram; the future games!

Do you suggest any other ram that will be compatible with the ASUS motherboard?

You could try this one AMD Radeon R9 Gamer Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory for $93.24 on amazon... and if you buy two of this one go to $186.48.... this is the fastest frequency your motherboard support and if you wish you motherboard can go up to 32gb you can buy two of this Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory for a max of 32gb of ram at the fastetst frequency your motherboard supports for a total of $441.96.

I think that my mobo supports Dual Channel and not Quad Channel!! If i but two kits of Dual Channel, will work as Dual Channel or Quad Channel?

I am sorry for the questions but i am a bit of uninformed! :chaudar:

but that's overkill(the 2133MHz 32 gigs ram)... and you should go to the website from asus, go to the page of yor motherboard and somwhere there should be a list of supported RAM, but it is most probably supported.

This is the mobo's official page:
http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A99FX_PRO_R20/overview/

They don't have any list of supported or recommended RAMs!

If your motherboard is the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 you have a total of 4 DIMM you could buy the first option and buy two of does. And i think should run at dual channel.

also, the gtx 970 atm is the best price/performance card on the market. around 330 dollars?(not sure about this) and it is nearly as good as a 600ish dollar gtx 780ti.
and the gtx 970 is easily overclockable to beat the gtx 780ti by far.

In the link that "tsuneo6" send, says that:

4 DIMM: Supports four (4) modules inserted into both the blue and black slots as two pairs of Dual-channel memory configuration

So that means that if i bought two kits of Dual Channel should work as dual channel! Is that true?

why go for a r9 290, or r9 290 x when the gtx 970 is there. either wait for the new line of AMD, or get a gtx 970
