random vertical stripes on screen during use

Alright, so i recently did a fresh re-install of windows 7 home premium. after it was finished and booted (approx 30min) i got a vertical pink and white striped screen. after i shut down and started it back up, it disappeared. After about 1 hour i got the same screen except green and white stripes. it also happened again today except it was gray and white. during these screens, i couldnt see any applications, not be able to click anything. i am thinking its the gpu but its fairly new so im not sure. it has never happened until i wiped the hard drive and install new windows.

my specs
- possessor: amd fx 8350 4.0 Ghz
- gpu: 2gb amd radeon hd 7800 specifically
- ram: 8gb 2 sticks
- motherboard: asus m5a99x evo r2.0
- 1000 watt power supply

Check your cabling... could easily be a loose cable.... that's the place to start

Ok well what is your 1000W PSU? ie exact brand, model

im not sure, i bought it on ebay. but i dont think it could be the power supply.

99% sure it's the GPU. What you're experiencing is called artifacting. RMA the card if you can

You need to establish whether your video card is faulty. Do you have a spare PC or a friend who's PC you can fit this card in and see if it works?

Is the card new? You could try returning it. If not, I don't think there is much you can do apart from replacing it :/
I'm fairly sure it's the GPU, but it would be good if you could test the card in another PC as said above just to make sure.

So before you think its one of your components, check your cables. My DVI cable would show blue dots everywhere on the screen and blue lines. Sometimes it would flicker to black and come back. It turns out for one reason or another my DVI cable was getting oxidized/corroded and was making poor contact. Legit I soaked the tips in clear vinegar and the cables have been working for a few months fine now lol.

The funny thing is it looked as if I had a unstable overclock, its really the only way to describe it.

im hoping its not a faulty card, and i checked the cables make sure they ok. if it happens again, i might just leave the screen and wiggle the cables. or it might be my monitor which i will see if it changes when i power off and on the monitor.

so far it hasnt happened again, maybe it was just a minute glitch.
