Would using a 8 pin(6+2) connector cause any problems for graphics card that uses only a 6 pin? I recently replaced my old PSU with a corsair CX500 500w power supply, but now when I play games the graphics card is barely used.

For example in planetside 2 on my old PSU the game would utilize the GPU as indicated on the FPS monitor and would run at 60-40 fps on all low.
However with the new PSU it runs at 20-10, and the fps counter indicates only the CPU is being used.

Could it be that a 6 pin powered card does not run with a 6+2 pin?

My current graphics card is a GTX550ti.

Maybe reseat the gpu to see if that helps.
Look if the power cable is put in well. Also try the other one.

The reason its called a 6+2pin and not an 8pin is because you dont need to use those extra 2 pins (which are only grounds anyway, its weird).
Also as a general rule with computers, if it can plug in, its meant to go there.

Your issues are more than likely something pretty mundane. I assume your monitor is plugged into the GPU and not the motherboard?
