Hey guys, I'm about to buy and build a new desktop for my sister.

She will be using it with softwares including Pro Tools 10 and Cubase.

Looking around the web the system requirements seems pretty vague for these softwares, ranging from 2 core requirements to 12 core requirements.

Is this overkill for this usage? I'm mostly concerned about the CPU. My sister's tech guy suggested getting an i7 (which I believe is complete overkill). I replaced it with an i5.

Nice build. I'm assuming your budget is $700. I wouldn't change a thing except for the power supply. Corsair is not reliable. Antec, Seasonic and XFX are the most reliable and well built. You need a better graphics caard in the future also. A i5 is good enough, there just trying to make you spend more money. A graphics card is more important for your work. Be sure to select best answer.

I have myself a 430M in my gaming build and I've had no problems with it. For it's price, the modular setting is really a huge plus.
