Hi everyone I have a i3-2120/ H61/8GB@1333/GTX 560 (non-Ti) gaming computer, but cannot play 1080p in high or max for any games, only low/med and zero mods. So do you think I can use max settings by just switching 560 with 970 for $350?

Or for another grand ($1400 according to pc part picker) would I need to build another computer with 2500k/4690k. My goal is like most to play 1080p with max settings at 60-70fps and maybe a couple mods. I have never seen 1440, 1600, or 2160p so I am happy just playing 1080 maxed.

Thanks

Well the i3 is definitely not strong enough to support the 970, so I'd recommend you to go with either a 2500k and heavily overclock it, or go with the 4690k.

Would I need to OC the 4690k?

Not really need to, but you can get a quite nice performance increase by doing so. 3700mhz is base turbo, you can easily get to 4400mhz with a decent aftermarket cooler ($20-30). That's a 19% increase already.

OK I ordered the GTX 970 even though Amazon has them back-ordered. I will give it a try with the i3 just for the sake of curiosity and saving $1000. If it bottleneck's really bad I will get a i5-4690k since nobody is selling the 2500k anymore, maybe used, though.
