Good computer yet all games lag...

i have r9 290 + i7 4770K, yet all of my games lag, I only just built this computer so my guess is the drivers, but im not sure. Ive downloaded the latest driver from the amd. What could be other reasons?? Thanks

You have the monitor plugged into the video card, not the graphics card, right?

Another possible issue could be a cheap-o power supply that can't give the system enough power to game.

I have my tv plugged directly into my hdmi output from my r9 290. And its defo not power supply issue as i got a very good one ( cant remember name now )

My gpu was originally at 94 C but i used msi, fiddled with fan settings and now doesnt go over 85C. I have not checked my cpu temp.
Also i play offline atm

1) i dont know what cmos are or how to reset them
2) I have not played with the motherboard at all so all settings are on default

read the book that came with your motherboard or go to the board manufacturers site and download and read the pdf. I don't care if you didn't touch anything. reset cmos.

then tell me what TV you are using.

So with MSI afterburner, does the GPU clock go down when the lag happens?
