Hi All,
I'm currently trying to assemble a "recording only" pc with some of the older hardware/software which I already have.

Here is some of the hardware I already have;
Gigabite HD6450 pci-e IGB3 -DR3 Graphic card
ENERMAX elt500AWT PSU 500w
Enermax 4U rack case
DDR 3 RAM 8GB
250GB SATA-2 HD (WD)

1x PCI sound (upgradable to pci-e 64bit with a pci-e to pci adapter card
1x PCI DSP card (upgardable to pci-e 64bit with a pci-e to pci adapter card

Software
Win7/64 Professional

Now my most important requirement is for a good Motherboard which while being current shuld be able to accept these rather old hardware! I've been offered an ASUS P67P Rev 3.0 which has the following slots with a max 32GB RAM capacity.

Expansion Slots
PCI Express 2.0 x16
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 (single at x16)
1 x PCIe 2.0 x16* [Black] (max. at x4 mode)

The PCIEX16_2 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX1_1 slot, PCIEX1_2 slot and USB3_34 connector. The PCIEX16_2 runs at x1 mode by default for system resource optimization.

PCI Express 2
PCI Slots 3

So, what do you experts think of this MB? Would you recommend this MB over something else? Any alternative or better MBs still current, but NOT expensive, which you're are using or can recommend? Any/all suggestions & advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That should work fine, I sold my P67/2500K to a lady that uses it for music and video work

Thanks!
On 2nd thoughts, p67 MBs have 3 pci slots which I think would be redundant in win7/64 platform! I don't intend going back to 32 bit! So is there an alternative MB which has ample pci-e x1,4,8,or 16 slots? Any suggestions?

Thanks

Might look at Z77, the Rocks Z77 Extreme 4 is a great one and reasonable, it was best selling and best rated

Thanks Tradesman1,
Good find indeed. I too saw this in this e-Bay link below. However, ASRock has only 3 pci-e slots & 3 pci which I don't need at all! Please take a look at the GigabyteGA-Z77X-D3H board & give me your verdit on this. It has plenty of pcie slots, 6 in all! It is quite reasonable too for a Gigabyte MB! I'm trying future proof it & don't want to buy or replace it at least for another 5-7 years, 10 if I can help it! (My 1st P4 lasted me 10 solid years! 2000-2010!)

1.Do you think I still can use the ENERMAX elt500AWT PSU 500w psu?
2. What cpu/ RAM would you recommend for performance /value for money!

http://www.ebay.com/gds/Top-5-Motherboard-and-CPU-Combo...

ASRock Z77

LGA 1155 socket
1 x PCIe 3.0 x16
1 x PCIe 2.0 x4
1 x PCIe x1
3 x PCI

Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H

LGA 1155 socket
1 x PCIe 3.0 x16
2 x PCIe 2.0 x8
3 x PCIe x1
1 x PCI

If there's anyone using this GA-Z77X-D3H MB for seroius home or studio recording, then I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks, I too was leaning towards this MB! The ASRock Z77 extreme seems to be AMD cpu based MB? I will read a little more on any "user problems" encountered before ordering it. Thank you indeed for your invaluable help & advice.

Cheers

Thanks again Tradesman1, Yes you're right,I just found that out self. Do you think I'd need or go for a bigger psu? I'll look up the specs for the one I have.

I found this excellent test review of this board here;

Think 500 should be fine, is it fairly new? I seldom see any of their PSUs

Not really, I bought it in 2006 & used with an Asus p5p800 MB.

Perhaps outdated & or inadequate power? I've no idea!

B.t.w the Z77X-D3H has only 4 pin MB power connecter & NOT the 8 pin!

I found these power connecters for this MB,which are as follows;

1 x 24-pin ATX main power connector
1 x 4-pin ATX 12V power connector
1 x CPU fan header
3 x system fan headers
