gtx580 upgrading to gtx970/980 i5 2500k

Thinking of upgrading my graphics card from a gtx580 to a gtx 970 or gtx 980 when i can pick these up after christmas for not as much money my system specs as follows

Antec 1200 v3 case
Gigabyte ud4 b3
Noctua nh d14 cooler
Corsair vengeance 1600mhz 8gb ram
I5 2500k clocked at 4.5ghz
Samsung 840 evo ssd 500gb
Ocz vertex 2 60gb ssd
Evga gtx580 superclocked edition 797mhz
Corsair hx1000w psu

What you think just hang on or is it time for a upgrade

I would probably be driven more towards the 980 but been comparing the 780ti and the 980 and there really isnt that much in it if you take into the cost per performance its not worth the extra £130 stuck between do i get 970 or 980 as the 80 in my opinion would need that bit more if i was to pay 400 vs the 280 for the 970
