Win 7 Alternative Internet Connectivity Problem

To state specifically my issue: My desktop will not connect to my desired network because the usb wi-fi connection adapter does not have enough range to connect to my sub network (it connects to my main network, which is drastically slower than the sub network [NETGEAR## being my main network and NETGEAR##-#G being the sub]). Now my laptop has a great (really outstanding range) wifi connector built in, and picks up this sub network. (Sorry if sub and main network terms are used miscorrectly, I just needed a way to separate one from another and I figure the #G network is like a portion of the network as the versa is the whole).

Now I have tried many many ways to connect my desktop to my laptop (wireless ad hoc/ether net cable/trying to connect manually/copying network to USB then adding it to my desktop)

The main issue that really bugs me and I see it as the most efficient and possible easiest way to make this work is when I go to Network & Sharing Center followed by clicking "Set up a new connection or network" then the 3rd option "Manually connect to a wireless network" which I then enter all required and necessary info. Now this is where I don't know what goes wrong, a prompt pops up stating "A network called NETGEAR##-#G already exists, so I select "Use the existing network" because the other option is to choose a different network. SO I click on it, and then nothing happens. Nowhere can I find my sub network, which apparently "exists" but cannot be found nor removed. When I tried copying the network over via USB using the windows command in the properties of my network (on laptop) then open up said application, it notifies me that I have successfully added this computer (desktop) to the sub wireless network. Except it hasn't.

For increase details I'll briefly note the problems or accessories I used when trying other ways:
wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer): I create the network successfully, but my desktop fails to connect to it.
Ethernet cable: When I connected Atheros AR8151 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.20) (not sure if possibly wrong cable, I do not know my cabling) to my laptop & desktop, it showed promise when it said identifying network, which never identified and never connected to the internet but did say connected to my laptop and when I tried to identify it it asked me for the 8 pin from my router (which I didn't give it, I'm unsure if that would create a new network [which I don't I think]), could perhaps a wifi extender work also?

So any help is appreciated, & the reason being why I need my faster Internet, the 'main' network doesn't have fast enough ping/latency to support gaming :p  while the 'sub' never skips a beat. So thank you all who chip in their helpfulness I blocked out the numbers w/ pound signs, I presume it wasn't necessary but rather safe than sorry. - Hugh
