Alright guys. I'm in a crisis.

On Thursday, my PC stopped connecting to Newegg.

I use Opera, it gives me the message as if I'm not connected to the Internet at all. This error only happens on Newegg in the USA! "newegg-dot-ca" works but I don't live in Canada.

All browsers cannot connect to "newegg.com".
Yes I've tried turning extensions like AdBlock off, no effect. Tried clearing cookies and cache.

The "hidemyass" browser VPN works to connect to the site through it.

I've called Newegg and they told me that they were having problems with the site being slow, which I think is bull and not related to my problem.

So now...in my time of need and stupidity...I ask my brothers, how the heck can I get back onto Newegg?!

Help a bro out...

TL;DR: "newegg .com" does not connect on my PC, all browsers have same result, yes I've tried clearing cache etc.

Help.

Try typing in this address for Newegg.com:

http://204.14.213.185/

If this works, then it could be a problem with your DNS server.

This does work. What does this mean? Thanks.

You can try to use flushdns to remove a bad name cache on your PC. http://www.wikihow.com/Flush-DNS

If that doesn't work, you may need to change the DNS settings on your PC and/or router to use a better server, such as

Google DNS 8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4

and/or

OpenDNS 208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220

I was going to start a post on this.

I can get on New Egg with mixed results for the last 2 weeks.

It is very slow, and New Egg is the only place I noticed a problem.

I've flushed the DNS and still have the same results. How would I go about switching to a better server? And would this affect my internet speed/performance?

It may be related to where you are in the country. Newegg appears to use something similar to akamai where you get different IP based on which DNS you ask for the IP. Some basic digging around to the google DNS servers (8.8.8.8 is many many different machines) in varies part of the US give a couple of different IP for newegg.com. They tend to be very secretive about things like this since it is key to how their business performs. Newegg could have issues with one of their data centers that represents one of these IP. Life used to be easy when a URL always mapped to a single server. Now everything is virtual.

Here are instructions on how to adjust your PC's DNS settings to use Google's servers:

https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/usi...

The effect on DNS requests is usually an improvement, since Google servers are abundant and well maintained. But without knowing which DNS servers you are currently using, it's hard to say for certain what the difference will be.

Don't forget you can also try OpenDNS as well (or any other well known DNS server).
